Blogging is Dead: Long Live the Blog

I couldn’t tell you the last time that I actually remember reading a blog, let alone writing one.

I suspect it has been a few years- a time long ago when I thought that I wanted this website to be an extension of the online radio show that I started over Covid with my friend Kevin, titled Dead Air. At the time, I figured it was a nice outlet to talk about the media that I was consuming, and it allowed me to share some of my thoughts and opinions (that absolutely no one had asked for).

Yet as I sit here on a cold evening in Wanaka, New Zealand, I have found myself in what most might refer to as a ‘creative block’, of sorts.

After traveling for nearly two months, I had hoped that by now I might have found a cure for the lack of inspiration that had prompted a near “Irish Goodbye” level of emigration to a country nearly 14,000 kilometres away from home. As it stands, I do feel that I have a clearer picture of what it is that I want to accomplish as a ‘creative’, however, I still feel as though I am getting in my own way.

Journaling has been something which has helped me to translate some of my feelings into something productive, but its solitude hasn’t quite provided me with the sense of gratification in completing a task that I need to motivate myself. Long story short, I feel that this whole blog idea might actually be an avenue to address this need- albeit in a very roundabout sort of way.

So I’m going to try to give this a go. After all, Squarespace recently reminded me that I generously donate $300 per year to its charitable cause, so I might as well make the most of it.

Look out for something new every few days. I’m sure Instagram will be the first to know.
